Melbourne Fetal Medicine has been established by two Maternal-Fetal Medicine sub specialist obstetricians - Dr Stephen Cole and Dr Shelley Rowlands.
Melbourne Fetal Medicine offers a new approach to the care of women in the private health sector diagnosed with a fetal abnormality. We have brought together a multidisciplinary group of specialists, all experienced in the field of fetal abnormality diagnosis and counselling. These specialists include Maternal-Fetal Medicine sub specialist obstetricians, neonatologists, geneticists, paediatric cardiologists, and a paediatric surgeon. Referral to other paediatric sub specilaists can be arranged if needed.
In addition, an experienced grief counsellor will be able to provide support for women and their partners struggling with the emotional impact that is often associated with the diagnosis of a fetal anomaly.
Although women diagnosed with a fetal abnormality may already see many of these specialists, at Melbourne Fetal Medicine we can streamline the process and facilitate medical specialist access for women to ensure they receive accurate and comprehensive counselling in a timely fashion. We believe this service will be valuable both to women, and also to obstetricians who are often faced with trying to coordinate what can be a disjointed and cumbersome range of services.
Melbourne Fetal Medicine is available to offer the following services:
* 2nd opinion ultrasound assessment, where a fetal abnormality has been diagnosed or is suspected from a previous ultrasound.
* Invasive prenatal diagnostic procedures, including CVS and amniocentesis.
* Fetal echocardiography
* Prenatal or early pregnancy Genetic Counselling for women at risk of carrying a fetus with a heritable condition
* Multidisciplinary counselling regarding the nature and prognosis of diagnosed fetal abnormalities
* Counselling regarding fetal infections
Melbourne Fetal Medicine aims to offer a high standard of care to women with a known or suspected fetal anomaly.
