YOU ARE IN: Home Page > Services > Ultrasound > 18-20 Week Scan

An ultrasound examination of your pregnancy is often recommended at 18-20 weeks gestation. This scan will provide valuable information about your pregnancy, it is often called the morphology scan, the Sonographer will

  • Confirm your due date
  • Measure the baby
  • Assess the placenta and amniotic fluid
  • Look for normal anatomy
  • Assess the well being of the baby

Who does the scan?

All the Sonographers at Lake Imaging are accredited to perform obstetric Ultrasound so the service is available at all the Lake Imaging sites.

Why do I need a full bladder?

We do ask you to present with a comfortably full bladder to allow proper assessment of the uterine anatomy and placental position. Once these areas have been checked you may be allowed to empty the bladder.

Can I find out the sex of the baby?

Ultrasound is not 100% accurate at determining the sex of your baby, it can depend on the position of the baby. If you wish to know the sex please tell the Sonographer at the start of the scan so we can try to obtain the best view.

Can my partner or family be present?

Yes you can bring your partner or family member with you. Please remember this is a detailed scan that can take over 40 minutes, small children may get bored and distract you from enjoying the scan.

Can I have a DVD of the scan?

Yes we can provide a DVD of the scan, please tell the Sonographer at the beginning of your appointment so they can record the most recognisable parts of the scan. There will be a small charge for this service, please ask at the time of booking your appointment.
