The Geelong Cats have an extensive team of quality medical professionals helping them to stay in the game and Geelong’s own Lake Imaging is no exception. As the leading provider of radiology services in the region, Lake Imaging is proud to have an alliance with the Geelong Football Club and is committed to providing players with a high level of expertise the club can trust and depend on.

Radiology is an essential part of diagnosing and treating sport and exercise related injuries. More specifically, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a commonly used scanning technique, which uses a magnetic field and radio waves to observe structures in the body. Detailed high-resolution images of the organs, soft tissue and bony structures are produced. MRI can detect bone injury such as a fracture, joint damage (bone, ligament and cartilage), as well as muscle and tendon damage including tears, strains and inflammation.

This non-invasive examination is now common practice for patients who require further investigations usually after injury or to ascertain a more accurate medical diagnosis. Lake Imaging MRI Manager, Ms Heather Ducie says “the average scan takes approximately 25 minutes and the majority of people are pleasantly surprised at how quick, safe and comfortable the whole MRI experience is”.

It is worth noting that it’s not the MRI machine that delivers a diagnosis or rehabilitation advice! Once a patient is scanned by the Radiographer, a set of images of the body are generated for a Radiologist to interpret and report on results. The radiology team of specialists play a vital role in the scanning and reporting process, therefore, experience matters.

Lake Imaging Director of Radiology, Dr Chien Ho says “our team of Radiologists at Lake Imaging are committed to supporting the Geelong Football Club and will continue to provide exceptional medical imaging services to the players. MRI is an effective diagnostic tool which allows us to identify the mechanism behind a sports injury, taking-out the guesswork and permitting the players to start rehabilitation faster. Our state-of-the-art equipment provides quality muscoskeletal imaging to get the Cats back on the field and keep them in the game”.

For any athlete it’s integral to be able to train and compete, so time is of the essence when it comes to scanning injured players. The medical team at Lake Imaging understands sports medicine and work closely alongside doctors and specialists to provide accurate and precise reports, which are critical for the diagnosis, treatment and recovery of the players.

With the almighty Cats having chosen Lake Imaging as their preferred MRI provider, the people of Geelong can be assured that anyone can also benefit from this radiology service, and experience the same level of professional service and expertise as our beloved Cats!
