Digital Image and Electronic Report Delivery
In 2002, Lake Imaging led the charge in electronic delivery of images and reports to referrers. Lake Imaging was the first private radiology provider in Australia to do so.
Since then Lake Imaging have continued to invest in the latest picture archiving and communication system (PACS). PACS is an economic and efficient method of storing digital images and transmitting electronic reports.
PACS is a web-based technology that combines four key components:
- Multiple imaging modalities (e.g. x-ray, CT, MRI, ultrasound)
- A secure IT network
- Multiple workstations for diagnosis and review
- Secure archives for image storage, retrieval and backup
Our advanced PACS enables staff and referrers print hard copies as required. They can conveniently access images and results from any authorised remote location. Plus, they can manage and compare multiple examinations and associated results over time.
PACS resolves past issues such as lost previous reports and lost images. It’s no longer necessary to repeat x-rays when patient reports or films go missing. PACS allows staff to perform seamless quality control and quality audits, ensuring excellence in our health care services.
The ultimate benefit of digital infrastructure, and our advanced PACS network, is that images and results of a patient's test can be forwarded, within 15 minutes of the test completion, to the referring doctor. For urgent studies, multiple doctors involved in a patient's care can review images immediately. The doctors, together, can then make the best treatment decision for the patient. When every minute counts, this is extremely beneficial.
